I am a retired scientist and I describe my love of nature and colour in oil paintings. While I began painting around 2003, since retiring I have become more serious about developing my skills. I love the work of the French and Australian Impressionists and post-Impressionists, and have visited many of the sites in France where they lived and painted. I have tried various genres, including suburban landscapes, abstracts, still lifes, and a precise style of flower painting, especially water lilies and roses. I am now branching out into landscapes and other more individual subjects, as well as into other media. I really enjoy blending oil paints on the substrate to convey light and shade. Although I am largely self-taught, I completed two painting courses at the Brisbane Institute of Art, and attended Janina Liddell’s classes in Samford. I am a member of Creative Samford, Samford Area Men’s Shed Art Group, Moreton Bay Arts Council, and Samford Arts and Craft Association, and some of my smaller paintings are displayed at the Slab Hut in Samford Village. I have won first and second prizes at the Samford Show, and been a finalist in the Moreton Bay Art Awards.
