Yes, you will see lily fringed lagoons and rolling hills when you indulge yourself in a weekend drive through Samford Valley and surrounds any weekend in June, but the stimulation of seeing some of the works of the 30 local artists exhibiting in The Samford and Surrounds Arts Trails and Open Studios is also yours to indulge in.
The peaceful countryside provides ample motivation for the artists and it is here you can visit their studios or the art venues where some artists will have gathered together to make a mini exhibition for your enjoyment. Studios and art venues will be open every weekend in June from 10 am to 4 pm.
The two previous successful Trails were hosted by Creative Samford and while they will again host the trails, 2017 will be starting with a bonanza Opening Night Launch in the Community Hall, School Road, Samford on Friday 5th May at 6.30 pm. This night will provide a smorgasbord of small art works created for the launch and available for purchase on the night. Make sure you have this one in your diary so you can use this opportunity to meet some of the artists and even participate in a group piece on the night.
In June when visiting the studios, visitors will have the opportunity to again meet the artists, view their work and in some studios see pieces being created for your enjoyment and understanding.
This year sees an increase in the diversity of artists with photographers, papermakers and basket makers joining the textile artists, painters, sculptors, ceramicists, wood turners, glassmakers and jewellers. Their work will be on display and available for purchase. Visiting art lovers are advised that not all studios will offer eftpos facilities.
Closer to the event, Trails Booklets featuring each artist and their location will be available at the Samford Tourist Information centre in Samford Village, as well as in local businesses, libraries and at each studio during the Trails.
Use the map supplied in the booklet or download this years from the web, then look for these signs on the roadside to assist you in finding each studio/venue.
As well as parks with places for families to picnic and relax, there are many local cafes to choose from for a coffee break, lunch or simply – stay for dinner. Spend a day or enjoy a return visit, you’ll wish you had more time to continue exploring this beautiful area and to enjoy the creative talent of local artists.
